Still Life
Due to the popularity of the previous article, MuteMath, here is another recommendation for an album.
It is a group named Kodomo with their concept album, Still Life. I listen to this album all the time when I need to concentrate on work.
The sound is an alternative electronic feel. It is similar to lounge, chill genre music. There is some parallels between Kodomo and Ulrich Schnauss, Air, Moby, etc. It is not jarring or loud, but more than easy listening. Still Life embodies music as a concept art, presenting it to the audience as an idea that is still forming. Kodomo doesn’t hide this fact since they name each song with the standard of “Concept” and then a number. Concept 3 is a particularly good one. Truly a worthwhile and overlooked artist to listen to if you are looking to diversify your musical tastes.
Chapman Stick is Way Cool!
Just had to share this with the world! This musical instrument is soooo innovative! I was surfing youtube for music to listen to, and my all time favorite group is Gentle Giant. So, I was search on that and found this Rob Martino guy that plays one of their songs. Cool. But, what he uses is something called a “Stick”. And, the sound is fantastic!
Now, looking further into it, turns out that this guy is one of the best at it that I could find. But, the instrument is still very powerful, giving a string player (actually called “tapping”) and ability to play many parts at the same time much as a piano player can. Well, I have played the piano for about 40 years and have been a “table top tapper” for as long! It is very exciting to consider the potential here. Unfortunately, you still have to adjust frets and bridges and torque and… okay, I would be one of those people who buy it but never really use it. But, I love the sound… listen to this!
